Municipal Corporation was established in 1978. First time elections of Municipal Corporation Ludhiana were held in year 1992. And Chaudhary Sat Parkash was elected as first Mayor of M.C. Ludhiana, S. Surjit Singh Ahluwalia became the Senior Deputy Mayor.

Total number of members of house was 50.

With the increase in population and territorial area of Ludhiana city the strength of house was increased to 75, plus six MLA members and budget of Municipal Corporation has crossed Rupees 700 crores, which was only Rupess 50 Cr. in 1970.

The State Election Committe finalised 32 candidates for Amritsar Municipal Corporation Elections, remaining 6 would be declared shortly.
