The Nagarjuna University was established by Act 43 of 1976 of A.P. State Legislature and Governed by Act 4 of 1991 covering 6 Universities of the State. It has got over 450 affiliated colleges in Krishna, Guntur and Prakasam Districts.

Its policy is to encourage the University College and the affiliated colleges to introduce job-oriented courses at the Degree and Post-Graduate levels.

In addition to its main campus, it maintains two campuses in Nuzvid, Krishna District and Ongole, Prakasam District. A total of 44 courses are offered at the three locations.

It affiliates the post-graduate programmes of 292 colleges and institutes in Guntur, Krishna, Prakasam and other districts of Andhra Pradesh. It offers a special MBA programme that meets industry standards, following an agreement reached with Central Michigan University to establish partner programs.
