Re: Nat64 vs ISATAP

An IPv6 transition component is an innovation that encourages the transitioning of the Internet from the Internet Protocol form 4 (IPv4) frameworks being used since 1981 to the successor tending to and directing arrangement of Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6).

ISATAP

Intra-Site Automatic Tunnel Addressing Protocol is an IPv6 move component intended to transmit IPv6 bundles between double stack hubs on top of an IPv4 arrange.

How ISATAP functions

ISATAP characterizes a strategy for creating a connection nearby IPv6 address from an IPv4 address, and an instrument to perform Neighbor Discovery on top of IPv4.

Usage of ISATAP

ISATAP is executed in Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2012, Windows Mobile, Linux, and in Cisco IOS (since IOS 12.2(14)S and IOS XE Release 2.1)

NAT64

NAT64 is a system to permit IPv6 hosts to speak with IPv4 servers. The NAT64 server is the endpoint for no less than one IPv4 address and an IPv6 arrange fragment of 32-bits, e.g., 64:ff9b::/96 (RFC 6052, RFC 6146). The IPv6 customer installs the IPv4 address with which it wishes to impart utilizing these bits, and sends its parcels to the subsequent address. The NAT64 server then makes a NAT-mapping between the IPv6 and the IPv4 address, permitting them to convey

Standard of operation

A straightforward NAT64 establishment may comprise of a door with two interfaces associated with an IPv4 organize and an IPv6 arrange, separately. Activity from the IPv6 system is steered through the door which plays out all the vital interpretations for exchanging bundles between the two systems. Notwithstanding, the interpretation is not symmetric, as the IPv6 address space is substantially bigger than the IPv4 address space; in this manner, balanced address mapping is impractical.

The entryway keeps up IPv6-to-IPv4 address mapping, which might be built up physically (stateless mapping) or consequently (stateful mapping) when the main parcel from the IPv6 organize comes to the NAT64 passage.
