Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University was set up by the Government of Bangladesh on 01 March 2005, however the activity for its foundation was taken a few years prior, firstly by a non-official gathering of socio-social nearby elites, to be specific Greater Mymensingh Cultural Forum.

Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) is the first and final state funded college set up in Bangladesh in memory of this present nation's artist - Kazi Nazrul Islam.
