Alberta Employment and Immigration (AE&I) sets Core Essential rates assuming learners are receiving maximum National Child Benefit Supplement (NCBS) from Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

Eligibility for NCBS Replacement Benefit

National Child Benefit Supplement (NCBS) Replacement Benefit is issued if:

learner is not receiving maximum NCBS due to no fault of their own
learner household is deemed ineligible for NCBS due to immigration status

PROCEDURE

The learner contacts the Student Funding Contact Centre (SFCC) to discuss the reasons why they are not receiving full NCBS. If the learner appears not to be receiving the maximum NCBS, the SFCC refers the required information to LISC for review and possible issuing of the NCBS Replacement benefit.

LISC verifies their eligibility on the CRA NCB Web link and if the learner is eligible issues the benefit.
