Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian School of Mines both are apex Institutes The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are autonomous public institutes of higher education, positioned in India. They are governed by the Institutes of Technology Act, 1961 which has affirmed them as institutions of national meaning, and lays down their powers, duties, and framework for governance etc. The Institutes of Technology Act, 1961 lists sixteen institutes placed at Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Mumbai, Roorkee, Bhubaneswar, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Indore, Jodhpur, Mandi, Patna, Ropar and Varanasi Educational rankings:- Countrywide, most IITs are ranked above any other engineering colleges in India in engineering education rankings. Outlook India's Top Engineering Colleges of 2015 ranked seven IITs in its top 10, including the top six positions. IITs also have one of the buck receipt rates amongst similar institutes on the world rankings, with a mere acceptance rate of 2% Universal, the simply six institutes in India ranked in the top 300 of the QS World University Rankings of 2015 are IISc Bangalore (at 147) and 5 IITs, IIT Delhi at 179, IIT Bombay at 202, IIT Madras at 254, IIT Kanpur at 271 and IIT Kharagpur at 286. The only Institute that was scheduled in the top 400 by Times Higher Education rankings was IIT Bombay in the 351-400 category. The Times Asia Rankings featured IIT Roorkee, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kharagpur, and IIT Madras at 55th, 57th, 65th, 69th and 78th respectively. Indian School of Mines:- The Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad is an educational institute of India. It is positioned in the mineral-rich region of India, in the city of Dhanbad. It was instituted by British Indian Government on the lines of the Royal School of Mines - London, and was properly opened on 9 December 1926 by Lord Irwin, the then Viceroy of India. Ranking:- ISM has been ranked as the 7th best Engineering College of India in the Edu-Rand Rankings of 2015. The investigation was done mutually by Edu, an Indian company and Rand Corporation, a non-profit American thinktank. ISM was time after time ranked as the 11th best engineering college in India in Outlook magazine's surveys of 2011, 2012 and 2013, but fell to 22nd place in the 2014 survey. It did not contribute in Outlook's 2015 survey. |
