The National Institutes of Technology (NITs) are a group of premier federally-funded public engineering institutes in India declared as Institutes of National Importance alongside the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) by an Act of Parliament of India.

NITs offer degree courses at bachelors, masters, and doctorate levels in various branches of engineering and technology. All NITs are autonomous which enables them to set up their own curriculum. The language of instruction is English at all these institutes.

As per my knowledge, there is no National Institutes of Technology (NIT) in Chennai in Tamil Nadu. List of National Institutes of Technology in India:
