Content:

RC & RL Circuits – low pass, high pass, transient analysis for pulse input; Diode: Principle, Characteristics, Applications (Rectifier, Clipping circuits) & Types (Zener Diode, LED, Photo diode); Transistor: Principle, Operation, Biasing (DC analysis of CE, CB and CC configuration), Transistor as a switch; Digital Circuits: Basic Logic gates, Universal gates, Boolean Algebra, Combinational circuit (Half-Adder, Full-Adder, Decoder), Latch, Flip-Flop, Counters and Registers (brief description about ripple counter, SISO Register); Op-amps & its Applications: Terminal characteristics of Op-amp, Inverting and Non-inverting amplifier, Summing amplifier, Integrator. Introduction to few systems (only Block level) : ADC, DAC, Linear power supply, SMPS, UPS, Principles of Communication Systems: Need for Modulation, AM and FM modulation concept & Block schematic of Super-heterodyne receiver.

Course Objectives:

To introduce Electronics and Communication Engineering in a nutshell.
To explain the role of Electronics and Communication Engineering in all other engineering disciplines.
To explain the basic building blocks of digital and analog electronic circuits.

Course Outcomes:
At the end of the course, the student must be able to

Design simple combinational and sequential circuits.
Analyze the given RC and RL circuits.
Design simple Diode circuits like rectifiers and clipping circuits.
Design circuits using ideal opamp to perform mathematical operations on analog signals.
appreciate the importance of some of the analog systems such as ADC, DAC, Power Supplies.
Appreciate the need for modulation and demodulation in communication systems.
