North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong was established in 1973 which is re-accredited by NAAC with ‘A’ grade.

Its jurisdiction extended originally to the states of Meghalaya and Nagaland and the erstwhile Union Territories of Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram. At present there are 53 undergraduate colleges affiliated to the University including 8 Professional Colleges.
