Re: Old ISAT cut scores
Illinois State Board of Education released the new cut scores of this exam so here I am providing the information about the same instead of old scores. ISAT cut scores The Illinois State Board of Education raised the cut scores for the ISAT, given to third through eighth grade students each spring, in Math and English language arts. This change is similar to changing a grading scale and requiring higher scores to earn a specific letter grade. The ISAT cut scores are grouped into ranges necessary to meet four specific performance level classifications: Exceeds, Meets, Below and Warning. In previous years, schools did not know if students were meeting college and career readiness benchmarks until the 11th1th grade, when students take the Prairie State Achievement Exam (PSAE). A disconnect emerged in which the percentage of students meeting or exceeding standards was much higher on the ISAT than on the PSAE. With the ISAT’s higher cut scores, the two exams are now aligned to provide a more accurate indication of a student’s chances for post secondary success. The higher performance levels for the ISAT mean that fewer students will meet or exceed standards. The decrease in the number of students meeting or exceeding standards is not the result of a decline in student capability or teacher performance, but a result of ISBE expecting more from Illinois’ students and schools. The raised ISAT performance levels are one of several initiatives under way in the state to equip students for college and the work force. The new performance expectations will help our schools prepare for a new online assessment system set to replace the ISAT during the 2014-15 school year.
