The India nnavy is invited candidates for Sailor post. All the sailors have been divided into two group viz 'X' and 'Y'. Artificer Apprentices fall under 'X' group and rest of the sailors in group 'Y'.

Sailors are recruited in the Indian Navy in various capacities:

Senior Secondary Recruit (SSR)
Matric Recruit (MR)
Non-Matric Recruit (NMR)
Musician (MUS)
Sports Entry
Artificer Apprentices (AA)

During the initial training period, the approximate salary of a Sailor is Rs.3200 pm.

On completion of initial training depending on Rank and number of years of service approximate salary at present rate for Sailor is Rs.4330 to Rs.16,395 pm.

All the Indian Navy sailors are categorised as 'X' and 'Y' for salary purpose. Artificer Apprentices (AA) fall under 'X' group and rest of the sailors in group 'Y':
