Re: Punjab University GATE

Panjab University (PU) is thinking of using the scores of the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) to grant admission into the Masters in Engineering (ME)/Master of Technology (M Tech) programs at the University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET).

PU started offering the ME/M Tech programs at UIET from the 2014-15 academic session. The university stipulated the admission criteria as Bachelor of Engineering (BE)/Bachelor of Technology (B Tech) or corresponding, with minimum 60% marks from PU/any recognized university. GATE qualified students were not required to appear for the entrance test.

Last year, in view of the fact that all the seats at the institute were filled by GATE qualified applicants, not a single candidate who qualified the entrance test could gain admission in any of the courses.

Few other developmental campaigns are also on the university’s agenda. Arrangements are being ready to provide better on-campus residential facilities to the research scholars, to raise the number of seats for certain courses in the department of Chinese and Tibetan, to launch certificate courses in Corporate Security, Safety and Fire Protection Management as well as the introduction of the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) and the Credit Framework for Skill Development (CFSD).

PU hosted the DST Inspire Camp on Monday, March 23, 2015, during which students will got the chance to interact with renowned personalities from the field of sciences and research. Moreover, 300 selected students would be mentored by academicians and may earn Scholarships in the future.
