The Department of German was set up in 1960. Beginning with the rudimentary courses at night, the Department today offers M.A, and Ph.D. courses too. It is the greatest and the main Department in the colleges of Panjab, Haryana, Himachal, J&K and Uttaranchal having the office of directing M.A, and Ph.D. programes in German. The Departemnt shows dialect through varying media helps. Classes/Lectures are occupied with coordinated effort with Max Muller Bhavan (Goethe Institute, New Delhi.

Numerous understudies of the Department have gotten Scholarships for higher examinations in Germany in different fields. Through interpretation work for the CIIPP Cell of the University, the Department is effectively offering help for the University's attempt to serve the bigger group. The staff has been occupied with the trading of grant in the global circle.
