The Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad (shortened as IIT (ISM)) is an open building and research organization situated in Dhanbad, India. It was previously known as Indian School of Mines and was a Deemed University before it got changed over into an Institute of National Importance under the Institutes of Technology Act, 1961.

IIT (ISM) is situated in the mineral-rich locale of India, in the city of Dhanbad. It is the third most established foundation (after IIT Roorkee and IIT (BHU) Varanasi) which got changed over into an IIT.

Internationally, IIT (ISM) positioned 201-250 among BRICS countries in the QS World University Rankings of 2016. Indian Institute of Technology, Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad University positioned 25th via Careers360 in "Top Government University In India 2017".

In India, among engineering colleges, it positioned sixth by India Today in 2017, and 13 by Outlook India in 2017. It was positioned 23 among building schools by the National Institutional Ranking Framework in 2017 in "Designing" classification and positions 53 in the "By and large" classification. Students Life
