Re: Rules Of JEE Main and Advance

I have knowledge about the Rules/eligibility as well as exam pattern of JEE Main and Advance. So here I am providing you information about it, as you want.


Eligibility of JEE Main 2016
Applicants who have passed in final examination of +2 (Class XII) or its equivalent qualifying examination in the year 2014 or 2015 or Those appearing in +2 in 2016 are eligible to appear in JEE Main 2016.

2013 pass outs or before Applicants are not eligible to appear in JEE Main

Applicants who appeared in class 12 in 2013, did not pass in 2013, but passed in 2014 are also not eligible.

Applicants must have taken at least five subjects in class 12th.

Applicants who are seeking admission in NITs, IIITs or CFTIs must ensure their eligibility for the admission in NITs, IIITs and CFTIs.

The Applicants who are aspirants only for IITs and ISM Dhanbad must ensure their eligibility for admission in IITs and ISM Dhanbad.

Qualifying Examinations for JEE Main
Intermediate or two-year Pre-University Examination conducted by a recognized Board/University.

Final Examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.

Any Public School Examination in India or in foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system.

H.S.C. Vocational Examination
Applicants should have pass grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects

Applicants should have 3 or 4-year diploma recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education

State Code of Eligibility

State Code of eligibility means the Code of the State from where a candidate has passed +2 examination by virtue of which he/she becomes eligible to appear in the JEE Main. Visit List of State Codes of Eligibility of JEE Exam.

Number of Attempts and Year of Appearance in JEE Main

The number of attempts which a candidate can avail at JEE (Main) shall be limited to 03 (three).

The Eligibility for CFIs, Gujarath, Odisha states are different.

Eligibility of IIT JEE Advanced 2016
The sutdent should write the JEE Main Exam Paper I and passed with Top 2,00,000 Rank from all categories like Genearl, OBC Non creamy layer, SC and ST.
The student should also be in the Top 20% of his Board Exams (state boards or CBSE or ISCE ) in applicable categories.

PwD candidates will be given relaxation in the eligibility criteria as per the decision of the Joint Admission Board of JEE (Advanced) 2016 in consonance with the directives of the Government of India.

Number of Attempts in JEE Advanced
Applicants can attempt JEE Advanced a maximum of two times and that too, in consecutive years.

Therefore, JEE (Advanced) 2016 should be either the Applicants FIRST attempt OR the SECOND consecutive attempt.

Appearance in Class XII examination
Applicants should have appeared for the Class XII examination for the first time in all the subjects in either 2015 or 2016.

Applicants who appeared for the Class XII examination in 2015 and wish to re-appear for the same in 2016 , will have to re-appear in all the subjects in 2016.

Students Passed Board exams in 2014 (for 2016)
Those Applicants who appeared for the first time in their Class XII (or equivalent) examination in 2014 or earlier are NOT eligible.

However, Applicants whose Class XII examination Board results for the academic year 2013-14 were declared after June 2014 are eligible to appear for JEE (Advanced) 2016.


Fitness for Mining and Petroleum Engineering
Special fitness and eligibility is required for mining and petroleum engineering.

NRI, FN, PIOs
Non-Resident Indian NRIs and Foreign National FN applicants as well as Person of Indian Origin PIOs Can apply for JEE Main & Advanced 2016.
They (Applicants) must score 60% aggregate marks in their qualifying examination.


Exam Pattern for JEE Main & Advanced
JEE Main Exam Pattern

JEE Main comprises of two papers:


Paper 1: For Engineering courses (Candidates can opt for a Online Test OR Offline Test)

Paper 2: For Architecture/Planning courses (Available only as Pen & Paper Based Test)

Paper 1: Computer based Test

• The Exam will be covering questions from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with equal weightage to all subjects.

• The candidates will have to opt for the correct response for each question out of four responses given.

• Zero marks will be deducted for no answer

• The exam will be for 3 hours in duration

• Each correct question will be allotted 4 marks

• Every wrong answer will result in deduction of 1/4 mark of the total marks

• Medium of paper will be in English, Hindi or Gujarati( for Gujarat candidates)

Paper 1: Pen and Paper Based Test

• The exam will be of 3 hours duration

• The Exam will be covering questions from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with equal weightage to all subjects.

• There will be multiple choice questions with one correct answer from a choice of four answers for each question.

• Every wrong answer will result in deduction of one mark due to negative marking of ¼ (one fourth) of the total marks.

• Zero marks will be deducted for no answer.

Paper 2:

• It is a Pen and Paper based Exam.

• It consists of 3 parts:

1. Mathematics

2. Aptitude Test

3. Drawing Test
JEE Advanced Exam Pattern

JEE Advanced Comprises of three parts-

Part I for Physics, Part II for Chemistry and Part III for Mathematics.

Each part will have sections as follows:


Section I: This section will have 10 multiple choice questions with four options out of which only one is the correct.

Section II: This will have 5 multiple-choice questions with four options each out of which one or more options are correct.

Section III: This section has 5 questions and the answer to each will be a single digit ranging from 0 to 9

JEE Advanced Examination Paper I

Paper I consists of three parts, part I for Physics, Part II for Chemistry and Part III for Mathematics.

Each part will have sections as follows:

Section 1 has 10 Multiple Choice Questions with four options out of which only one option is correct.

Section 2 has 5 Multiple Choice Questions with four options each out of which one or more options are correct.

Section 3 has 5 questions and answer to each question is in a single digit ranging from 0 to 9.

JEE Advanced Examination Paper II

Paper I consists of three parts, part I for Physics, Part II for Chemistry and Part III for Mathematics.

Each part will have sections as follows:

Section 1 has 8 Multiple Choice Questions with four options each out of which one or more options are correct.

Section 2 has 4 paragraphs describing theory, practical, data etc. There are 8 questions in total with 2 questions per paragraph. Each question has 4 options out of which one is correct.

Section 3 has Matching List type questions where two lists are matched and options are coded as A, B,C and D. Candidates have to choose the option as per the code.
