Dr. Harisingh Gour University was shaped in the year 1946 on the eighteenth of July and it was before called as University of Saugar. It is the most seasoned college in the condition of Madhya Pradesh and the eighteenth Univesity in the entire of India. The college was framed from the well deserved investment funds of a solitary individual Dr. Harisingh Gour, who was a social reformer, educationist, Philonthropist and extraordinary loyalist.

The State Legislature of Madhya Pradesh called this college by the present name on 1983 in the time of February. The college's grounds is situated at around 5km east of the city of Sagar on the pinnacle of Patharia slopes at a zone of 830.3 hectares.
