The majority of business majors enter the Cox School of Business of Southern Methodist University in the spring of their sophomore year, after completing the Cox Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) admission requirements for current SMU students.

To be admitted, students must have earned at least 39 academic hours and must earn a specified cumulative GPA and business subset (a group of seven courses) GPA.

Cox BBA Admission Requirements

Students entering SMU Fall 2016 and after must meet the following admission requirements to enter the Cox School of Business:
• Completion of the seven-course subset with passing grades:
• Introduction to Academic Discourse, DISC 1312 or ENG 2305
• Inquiry Seminar, DISC 1313 or ENG 2306
• Business Calculus or Calculus I, MATH 1309 or 1337
• Microeconomics, ECO 1311
• Macroeconomics, ECO 1312
• Intro to Financial Accounting, ACCT 2301
• Statistics, STAT 2301/2331 (or ITOM 2305 or EMIS 3340 or CSE/STAT 4340)
• Minimum 3.500 all-college cumulative GPA in the semester the subset is completed
• Minimum 39 hours completed

Students who entered SMU Fall 2014-Summer 2016 must meet the following admission requirements to enter the Cox School of Business:
• Minimum 3.300 GPA on the six-course subset:
• DISC 1312 or ENG 2305
• MATH 1309 or 1337
• ECO 1311
• ECO 1312
• ACCT 2301
• STAT 2301/2331 (or ITOM 2305 or EMIS 3340 or CSE/STAT 4340)
• Minimum 3.300 all-college cumulative GPA in the semester the subset is completed
• Minimum 39 hours completed
