Re: SPA Delhi Admission Criteria

The School of Planning and Architecture is a specialized University, only one of its kinds, which exclusively provides training at various levels, in different aspects of human habitat and environment. The School has taken lead in introducing academic programmes in specialized fields both at Bachelor's and Master's level.

Admission to Ph.D. Programmes

Applicants for admission to Ph.D. programmes shall possess the following qualifications.

Master Degree in Urban Planning or Regional Planning or Environmental Planning or Housing or Transport Planning or Landscape Architecture or Urban Design or Architectural Conservation or Building Engineering and Management or Industrial Design conducted by the School, or equivalent from any other recognized university or institution with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks;

or

Bachelor Degree in Planning or Architecture of the School or its equivalent from any other recognized university or institution with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks and 5 years experience in teaching, research or professional practice.

Relaxation in the aggregate marks specified above is made for exceptionally qualified applicants.

Reservation of Seats for SC/ST/PC/OBC Candidates
Reservations is applicable as per rules of the Govt. of India.

Procedure for Admission
One shall state and submit the following with the application:

• Proposed Department of Study
• Broad area of research including nature, objectives and scope of the subject, and tentative title
• Other particulars that the applicant may like to furnish regarding the choice of the subject and its importance for research
• Name of the faculty advisor of her choice, if any

Head of the concerned Department of Studies process the application of possessing the prescribed qualifications through the DRC.

After inspection of applications candidates found eligible will be invited to appear for an interview.

After interviewing, the DRC make its recommendations to the Dean of Studies covering the following aspects:

• That research on the proposed subject can be profitably pursued
• That research work can be appropriately undertaken in the concerned Department of Studies
• That one possesses requisite qualifications and competencies for the proposed research
• That the name of the faculty advisor for the applicant, preferably from the concerned Department of Studies, or from another Department of Studies, or Centre or Unit in the School has been identified
• That the name of the external advisor, in addition to the internal faculty advisor, has been identified, if deemed necessary
• That specific course, other than the essential and optional courses prescribed for the doctoral programme, which the candidate shall pursue and satisfactorily complete within the first three semesters of registration are identified
