The SRM University, formerly SRM Institute of Science and Technology, is a deemed university in Tamil Nadu and was founded in 1985 as SRM Engineering College in Kattankulathur, under University of Madras.

It has 7 campuses, 4 in Tamil Nadu—Kattankulathur, Ramapuram, Vadapalani, Tiruchchirappalli and others in NCR, Sonepat and Gangtok.

Its vision is to emerge as a World - Class University in creating and spread knowledge, and providing students a unique learning experience in Science, Technology, Medicine, Management and other areas of scholarship that best serve the world and betterment of mankind.

It is headed by the Chancellor who is supported by the Chairman Mr. Ravi Pachamoothoo, the President Dr. P. Sathyanarayanan, the Vice - President Dr. R. Shivakumar and the Vice - Chancellor, Prof. Prabir Bagchi.

The Directors of Faculties, Admission, Corporate Affairs and Student Mentoring, report directly to the Vice - Chancellor.

Divisions like planning, finance and legal, work closely with Vice Chancellor reporting to the Board of Management.

The three faculties - Engineering & Technology, Medical & Health Sciences, and Science & Humanities - are headed by Directors.

Its key functional areas including Research, Admission, Corporate Affairs and Student Mentoring are headed by directors. Its various Schools are headed by Deans and the Departments by HODs.
