The Tata Institute Of Social Science Guwahati is set up at the behest of the government of Assam and the Ministry of Department of North East Region, Government of India.

TISS Guwahati has been contributing to the development sector in the North East through a well-conceived Diploma Programme in Community Organisation and Development Practice since June 2009.

The campus introduced a new M.A. programme in Peace and Conflict Studies.

A disciplinary M.A. programme in Sociology and Social Anthropology was also introduced.

NAAC reaccredited TISS in February with a score of 3.89 out of 4 (in the third cycle), which is the second highest score of universities accredited so far.
