Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University was set up by the Government of Bangladesh on 01 March 2005, however the activity for its foundation was taken a few years prior, firstly by a non-official gathering of socio-social neighborhood elites, in particular Greater Mymensingh Cultural Forum.

The college was initially considered to be worked as the main social college in Bangladesh, yet the JKKNIU Act sanctioned in 2006 made it a general college with a unique spotlight on liberal-cum-performing expressions instruction and exploration.
