Re: United States Municipal Corporation
A municipal corporation is the legal term for a local governing body, including (but not necessarily limited to) cities, counties, towns, townships, charter townships, villages, and boroughs. Municipal corporations in the United States, are established by charters that are granted either directly by a state legislature by means of local legislation, or indirectly under a general municipal corporation law, It is done after the proposed charter has passed a referendum vote of the affected population. In India, a Municipal Corporation is an administering local government body, generally for cities of population 300,000 or more. The Corporation of Chennai was the first Municipal Corporation in India. It was established on 29 September 1688 by the British East India Company, via a Royal Charter of King James II of England.
