The Department of Ancient History and Archaeology of UOM or University of Madras had its inception in 1959.

Conducting Seminars, Workshops, Conferences, Refresher Courses, Endowment Lectures, Explorations and Excavations are the regular Departmental activities towards achieving academic excellence in the field of Ancient History and Archaeology.
