History began to be taught in the Maharaja's College, in the year 1894 as well as History Society, the oldest forum of Princely Mysore had established academic department and it is being continued. In the year 1916 University of Mysore was established with the professor of History Thomas Denham as it’s first Registrar. Department of History is part of the faculty of the Arts University.
