The civil services examination is directed by the UPSC yearly in three phases — preparatory, primary and meeting — to choose officers of Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and Indian Police Service (IPS), among others. The preparatory examination comprises of two papers — Paper I and Paper II of two hours span each.
