Discuss the importance of standardization in destgn with suitable examples. Explain various standards used in machine design. What do you understand by the following designation of materials : 40C7, 40Crl, 35Nilcr60, 40CrlY2l, FG350 Discuss the important non-metallic materials used in engineering practices. Attempt any four of the following 5x4-20 A)Load on a bolt consists of an axial pull of 15 kN with transverse shear force of 7 kN. Find the required diameter ofbolt according to maximum shear stress theory. permissible tensile stress at elastic limit = 120 Mpa and poisson's ratio : 0.3. (b) At a critical section in a shaft, the bending stress : 60 MPa and torsional shear stress : 40 MPa. Determine the facor of safety according to (i) I\{ax. normal stress theory and (ii) Max. shear stress theory. Yield stress of shaft material is 300 MPa and Poisson's ratio is 0.3.
