WCU's EMC Program is acknowledged by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs through the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the EMS Professions (CoAEMSP) as well as it is the first Baccalaureate Emergency Medical Care (EMC) program in the nation. As a WCU EMC aspirant, during the completion of the paramedic studies which will concentrate in one of two areas: Health Management or Science (Pre Med). Health Management Concentration: Prepares the graduates for management roles in healthcare, EMS administration positions, and graduate school. Science/Pre-Med: Prepares the graduates for medical school, physician assistant programs, dental school, physical therapy programs, and graduate school. The online course structure of the EMC program is given below: EMC 340 Introduction to Clinical Medicine, 3 credit hours EMC 360 Acute Fluid and Respiratory Disorders, 3 credit hours EMC 370 Medical Emergencies, 3 credit hours EMC 410 Trauma Management, 3 credit hours EMC 420 Maternal and Child Emergency Care, 3 credit hours EMC 430 Special Needs Patients, 1 credit hour EMC 445 EMC Systems Management, 3 credit hours EMC 451 Advanced EKG Interpretation, 1 credit hour EMC 496 Senior Seminar, 1 credit hour HSCC 330 Legal and Legislative Aspects of Health Care, 3 credit hours EMC 320 Introduction to Pharmacology, 3 credit hours HSCC 311 Systems and Trends in Health Care Delivery, 3 credit hours HSCC 330 Legal and Legislative Aspects of Health Care, 3 credit hours HSCC 318 Department Administration, 3 hours HSCC 440 Quality Management in Health Care, 3 hours HSCC 450 Financial Management in Health Care, 3 hours HSCC 470 Research Methodology and Analysis, 2 credit hours Lab Sections to be Completed at Cullowhee in Summer EMC 461 Simulation Laboratory, 1 credit hours The Emergency Medical Care (EMC) concentration prepares EMS professionals for leadership roles in management or education.
