What do I need to bring for a Passport

What are the documents which are necessary while the application has to be submitted for attaining the Passport?

All passport applicants should complete a passport application as well submit supporting documentation to the State Department before a passport can be issued. Additional paperwork also must accompany all child applications.

Applicants are requested to visit their jurisdictional passport office's home page under Passport Office to know about additional documents required, if any.

Applicants are required to furnish original documents along with one set of self-attested photocopies of the same at the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) for processing.

Proof of Address

One is required to submit at least 1 of the documents listed below.
1 Water Bill
2 Telephone (landline or post paid mobile bill)
3 Electricity bill
4 Income Tax Assessment Order
5 Election Commission Photo ID card
6 Proof of Gas Connection
7 Certificate from Employer of reputed companies on letter head
8 Spouse's passport copy (First and last page including family details), (provided the applicant's present address matches the address mentioned in the spouses passport)
9 Applicant's current and valid ration card
10 Parent's passport copy, in case of minors(First and last page)
11 Aadhaar Card
12 Registered Rent Agreement (for a period of more than one year)
13 Photo Passbook of running Bank Account (Scheduled Public Sector Banks, Scheduled Private Sector Indian Banks and Regional Rural Banks only)

Proof of Date of Birth (DOB)
One is required to submit at least 1 of the documents listed below.
1 Birth certificate issued by a Municipal Authority or any office authorized to issue Birth and Death Certificate by the Registrar of Births & Deaths
2 School leaving certificate / Secondary School leaving certificate/ Certificate of Recognized Boards from the school last attended by the applicant or any other recognized educational institution
3 Affidavit sworn before a Magistrate/Notary stating date/place of birth as per the specimen in Annexure 'A' by illiterate or semi-illiterate applicants (Less than 5th class).

Minor
It is assumed that permission of both parents is available, unless specified.
For minor applicants, current address proof document in the name of parent(s) can be submitted.
It is advised to bring original and self-attested copies of parents passport to Passport Seva Kendra (PSK), in case parents possess passport.
For minor applicants, documents have to be attested by parents.
The minor applicant will be eligible for Non-ECR till he/she attains the age of 18 years.

Adult
Excluding Senior Citizens
ECR/ECNR
ECR stands for Emigration Check Required and ECNR stands for Emigration Check Not Required.
ECR status will be printed in the passport of the applicants who fall in the ECR category. For those falling in the Non-ECR category, there will be no specific mention in the passport.
The practice of putting Non-ECR (previously ECNR) stamp has been discontinued.
