The Karnataka State Open University set up on first June 1996 vide Karnataka Govt. Warning No. ED 1 UOV 95 dated twelfth February 1996 - KSOU Act 1992 is thought to be a rumored Open University amongst the open learning foundations in the nation. Keeping in perspective the instructive needs of our nation, when all is said in done, and state specifically the strategies and projects have been adapted to take into account the poor.

Karnataka State Open University is a perceived University of Distance Education Council (DEC), New Delhi, general individual from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), Delhi, lasting individual from Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), London, UK, Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU), Beijing, China, furthermore has relationship with Commonwealth of Learning (COL).

Karnataka State Open University is arranged at the North–Western end of the Manasagangotri grounds, Mysore. The University houses at present the Administrative Office, Academic Block, Lecture Halls, a very much prepared Library, Guest House Cottages, a Moderate Canteen, Girls Hostel and a couple of cabins giving constrained convenience to understudies coming to Mysore for going to the Contact Programs or Term-end examinations.
