The Mumbai University has booked for almost 25,000 units of the Aakash tablet, with each tablet roughly costing around Rs.1,138.

The university claims to have received these requests from over 90 colleges and departments that fall under the university's jurisdiction.

While the numbers are already high, the university is expecting many more to come in the coming phases.

The scheme was extended by the human resources development ministry to all universities in the state.

Among the colleges who have sought the tablets for their students, Vivek College in Goregaon has got the highest numbers of applications (2262) from students .

Students will be able to access all the online content for undergraduate and postgraduate courses that is being developed under the human resources development ministry free of cost. Students can place an order with their colleges or their departments.

The device will also enable students and teachers in the university to access the e-content anytime and anywhere, added Hande.
