Re: About Kolkata Municipal Corporation

Kolkata Municipal Corporation or KMC (some time ago Calcutta Municipal Corporation or CMC) is in charge of the community foundation and organization of the city of Kolkata. This city authoritative body regulates a zone of 200.71 km. Its adage, Purosree Bibardhan, is engraved on its insignia in Bengali script. KMC is going by Sovan Chatterjee the present Mayor of Kolkata.

Structure

The KMC was set up in 2003. Under the direction of the main Minister of Local Self-Government in Bengal, Sir Surendranath Banerjee, the Calcutta Municipal Act of 1923 made arrangement for the emancipation of ladies and the decision of a Mayor every year.
The city is separated into 144 regulatory wards that are gathered into 15 boroughs.[3] Each of these wards chooses a councilor to the KMC. Every precinct has a panel comprising of the councilors chose from the individual wards of the districts. The Corporation, through the district boards, keeps up government-supported schools, healing centers and civil markets and shares in urban arranging and street upkeep.

Range of Jurisdiction

The purview of the KMC covers the zone secured by the Kolkata Police (which thus incorporates the zone of Kolkata District), however incorporates a contiguous region too. As indicated by KMC site, recent Joka-I and Joka-II Gram Panchayats were added as far as possible, in spite of the fact that data on their dispersion into wards was not available.[8] This option expands the range of KMC to 200.71 square kilometers (77.49 sq mi)

Registering of births and deaths
Conservation of heritage sites
Disease control, including immunisation
Public municipal schools etc.
