Bachelor's (Honors) Degree Textile

At AIFD, textile design department provides a professional, multi-disciplined, career ready education balanced by a comprehensive design education and a global perspective.

The curriculum of the program is premeditated to evolve thought process and creativity.

Eligibility:


Qualifications required for Bachelor's Programme:

Applicants should have minimum *higher* 2nd division in Higher Secondary School Certificate or equivalent from a recognized Institute/Board.

Applicants having "A" levels or other foreign qualifications must provide an equivalence certificate issued by Intermediate Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC).

Students who meet Iqra University/AIFD and HEC criteria are eligible to apply for the program of their choice.

Admissions are based purely on merit.

Admissions to Asian Institute of Fashion Design Bachelor's (Honors) program are announced before the beginning of each of the two terms starting in January and August of each year


Course Description

Introduction to Textile
This course is to introduce the students to color, design and repeat patterns. It also helps to understand the process of print design by teaching them background treatments and repeat patterns and placements.
Print design 1:
To teach the students print design through a series of assignments. Students will learn to develop motifs from the given source, simultaneously developing their designs, color sense and skills.
Basic drafting:
To teach the students about the basic drafting, line quality, use of T-square and set square. Through the series of assignments they will learn to improve their line quality, drafting of 3D forms and interior perspectives. The course aims to help students to develop their design and repeat placement and interior/product based design projects.
History of textiles 1:
This course deals with the history of textiles from the most ancient times to the modern era. Through the fragments of ancient textiles we can read at least part of the history of humankind. In this course textile traditions of the great civilizations such as Egypt, Byzantine and Persia down to the present day are included.
Print design 2:
This course requires students to integrate knowledge, conceptualize understanding and technical skills with material, form and contextual issues in the textile design discipline. Projects will address the conceptual and material understanding of textile processes relating to surface design techniques. Through projects, this course will introduce and develop the student's understanding of textile processes of print, dyed and stitched textiles.
Weaving 1:
This course aims to give the basic knowledge of weaving. This includes basic weave structures, setting up loom, warping process and color and weave effects.
Survey of textiles 1:
To teach the students basic processes involved in screen-printing and Batik. The course includes printable design, making screens, printing and Batik techniques.
Textile drawing 1:
This course is designed to teach the students to explore different mediums like water colors, dry pastels and charcoal through the series of still life objects.
Materials and processes 1:
The course includes the use of different materials and techniques in terms of print related design projects. This includes techniques like dry brush, stenciling and surface texturing to create printable designs.
Survey of textiles 2:
The course includes exploration of block printing and tie and dye techniques.
Materials and processes 2:
This course includes use of different textile techniques learnt in previous courses to create an art form in terms of 2-D and 3-D installations.
Weaving 2:
The course includes both loom and off loom projects. Loom project includes exploring different weave structures using multiple drafting and picking orders. Off loom includes exploring off loom techniques.
Print design 3:
This course covers the basic knowledge of printing techniques used in the local market. Students are expected to work on different projects utilizing that knowledge to create individual designs keeping in mind different products in the market.
Textile drawing 2:
This course includes the study of still life, flowers, leaves and interiors using pencil, water color and charcoal as mediums.
History of textiles 2:
The course covers the basics of textiles. The world history, textiles used in west in the bygone eras. The European textiles, the technology, its application and the impact of industrialization throughout the world; it also includes Velvets, silks and tapestries of Italy, Lyons, Australia, England and France.
History of textiles 3:
The course covers the study of textiles in the East. This includes textiles from Japan, China and East Asia, there brilliance which lured traders from Europe. It also includes silks from China, Japanese indigo dyeing and splendors of Malaysian and Indonesian Batiks.
Survey of textiles 3:
It includes exploring process involved in jute and felt making. Simultaneously creating interior products.
Weave project 1:
This course includes two product based projects. Students are expected to experiment and explore different yarns in terms of material, texture and count to create the given products.
Textile drawing 3:
This course includes the study of still life, flowers, leaves and interiors/ exterior using pencil, water color and charcoal as mediums.
Weave project 2
To teach the students to work on a design project. This includes research on theme and product, market survey, development and final presentation.
History of textiles 4
This course deals with the history of textiles from the most ancient times to the modern era. Through the fragments of ancient textiles we can read at least part of the history of humankind. In this course the focus would be the great traditions of Indian textiles. India with rich cultural diversity has an even richer textile crafts and studying them would enable the students to better understand their own heritage and roots in regards to textiles.
Print project 1:
This project includes the advance level print design. The students are encouraged and exposed to market base product design through the series of assignments. Students are expected to explore and experiment with all the design possibilities related to the given product. This enables them to develop professional approach with creative mind.
Print project 2:
This course provides the understanding of the product development according to the today world. They under go through various stages before reaching their final project, which gives them the confidence and the knowledge required in the today market.
Dissertation:
It involves the written research report. A topic is chosen by the students on which research will be carried out starting from its origin to modern life.
Mini thesis:
It is the most expressive, elaborate and experimental stage for the student. It provides the platform for voicing one own concept and view of looking at things that can be daring, bold and totally unconventional. At the same time traditional themes can be explored keeping alive their rich, ethnic feel, along with invigorating one's own creative ability to create something unique. The students are expected to experiment with scale, colors, material and design.
Evaluation:
This includes the portfolio review of all the students before going for their final project (Thesis) which includes all the assignments from the first semester to the seventh semester.
Thesis:
This course is taken by all the students in the final year. This is the time when their skills, knowledge, confidence and an aesthetic sense are challenged. They are required to design products for the local market using appropriate theme and product range. They will be evaluated on their four years of learning.
