I have completed master degree and I want to do PhD course from Aligarh Muslim University so tell me the PhD courses offered by this University? Tell me the eligibility criteria for admission? Tell me the last date to submit the application form?

As you want to do Ph.D Degree in Botany discipline from Aligarh Muslim University, so you have to appear in Entrance Exam conducted by University for admission.

SECTION-A

Structure of Atoms and biomolecules: Bio-molecules and chemical bonds. Structure, function, properties and significance of proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, nucleic acids and vitamins.
Principles of biophysical chemistry: pH, buffer, reaction kinetics, thermodynamics, colligative properties.
Structural organization and function of intracellular organelles: Cell membrane/ wall, nucleus, mitochondria, Golgi bodies, lysosomes, endoplasmic reticulum, peroxisomes, plastids, vacuoles and chloroplast. Structure and function of cytoskeleton and its role in motility.
Cell division and cell cycle: Mitosis and meiosis, their regulation; steps in the cell cycle and the control of cell cycle.
Mendelian principles, concept of gene and genetic engineering: Dominance, segregation and
independent assortment. Deviation from Mendelian inheritance and genetic variation; linkage, cross-over maps, epistatis and pleiotropy. Alleles, multiple alleles, pseudoalleles, cloning and transgenics.
Level of structural organization and classification: Unicellular, colonial and multicellular forms, levels of organization of tissues, organs and systems. Important criteria used for classification in each taxon. Classification of plants, animals and microorganisms, evolutionary relationship among taxa.
Statistical methods: Measures of central tendency and dispersal; probability distributions
(binomial, Poisson and normal); sampling distribution. Difference between parametric and nonparametric statistics; confidence interval; errors; levels of siginificance. Regression and
correlation. t-test; analysis of variation; chi-square test. Basic introduction to multivariate
statistics.
Methods in field biology: Methods of estimating population density of animals and plants;
ranging patterns through direct, indirect and remote observations. Sampling methods for
studying behaviour. Habitat characterization, ground and remote sensing methods.
Environment, ecology and biodiversity: Current environmental issues and their mitigation. Types of pollution, their sources, effects, prevention and control. Physical conditions of the
environment: temperature, light and water. Biogeochemical cycles. Ecosystem concept,
structure and function. Food chains and food webs. Energy flow. Succession. Management and conservation issues and solutions
Heritage: Cultural diversity and its conservation. Museums, their history and development.
English: Sentence completion, synonyms, antonyms. One word substitution. Direct and indirect speech. Active and passive voice. Clause correction.

SECTION–B Department of Botany
Diversity and classification of living world, characteristics and ultrastructure of viroids, viruses, phytoplasmas, bacteria, fungi and plant parasitic nematodes and their important diseases and management; concept of plant disease and host parasite relationship, principles of plant disease management.
General characteristics, occurrence, distribution, classification and economic importance of
Algae - Chlamydomonas, Vaucheria, Chara, Batrachospermum, Ectocarpus and Nostoc;
Bryophytes; - Riccia, Marchantia, Anthoceros and Funaria; Pteridophytes - Psilotum,
Lycopodium, Selaginella, Equisetum, Marsilea and Pteris; and Gymnosperms - Cycas, Pinus and Ephedra.
Aims and components of systematics; Bentham and Hooker, Engler and Prantl, Takhtajan and Hutchinson systems of classification; diagnostic characteristics of families: Annonaceae,
Portulacaceae, Fumariaceae, Papaveraceae, Rhamnaceae, Zygophyllaceae, Moringaceae,
Lythraceae, Oleaceae, Convolvulaceae, Scrophulariaceae,Casuarinaceae, Polygonaceae,
Commelinaceae, Cyperaceae and Poaceae. Tissue systems and their functions. Vegetative and sexual reproduction, pollination, fertilization, dormancy and seed germination; cultivation and uses of important cereal, forage, fibre, oil seed and pulse crops and medicinal plants. Diagnostic features and uses of important timber woods.
