Mendelian principles, concept of gene and genetic engineering: Dominance, segregation and independent assortment. Deviation from Mendelian inheritance and genetic variation; linkage, cross-over maps, epistatis and pleiotropy. Alleles, multiple alleles, pseudoalleles, cloning and transgenics. SECTION–B Department of Botany Diversity and classification of living world, characteristics and ultrastructure of viroids, viruses, phytoplasmas, bacteria, fungi and plant parasitic nematodes and their important diseases and management; concept of plant disease and host parasite relationship, principles of plant disease management. General characteristics, occurrence, distribution, classification and economic importance of Algae - Chlamydomonas, Vaucheria, Chara, Batrachospermum, Ectocarpus and Nostoc; Bryophytes; - Riccia, Marchantia, Anthoceros and Funaria; Pteridophytes - Psilotum, Lycopodium, Selaginella, Equisetum, Marsilea and Pteris; and Gymnosperms - Cycas, Pinus and Ephedra.
