The University of Allahabad took the lead in introducing Defence Studies as a subject in 1940 at the initiative of Dr. A.N. Jha, the then Vice-Chancellor.

The Department of Defence Studies, Allahabad University started teaching the subject at postgraduate and research level in 1965.

The courses in Defence Studies at this University were drafted and improved from time to time in consultation with Prof.

The Department has organised teaching, research, publication and public education in an excellent manner.

Under Graduate Courses

Admissions are held every year to the 3 year under graduate course through a centrally conducted enterance test (UGET) held by the University.

Post Graduate Courses

No. of seats: 15 + 5 (reserved for Army Personnel)

Procedure: Admissions are held every year to the 2 year post graduate course through a centrally conducted entrance test (PGET) held by the University.

Research

The Department of Defence and Strategic Studies is actively engaged in conducting research in various important issues and admits candidates with greatest possible care after a synopsis submission and screening by the Departmental Committee consisting of faculty members and subject experts with preference for U.G.C.'s National Entrance Test (NET) qualified.
