Applied Mechanics IITM
I want to take admission in Post Graduate Program in Engineering which is offered by Department of Applied Mechanics at IIT-M (Indian Institute of Technology Madras) so please give me details for admission? IIT-M provides admission in M.Tech on basis of GATE score or conducts its own entrance test?

Re: Applied Mechanics IITM
The Department of Applied Mechanics is the only department in IIT Madras dedicated to Post Graduate programs in Engineering completely. The following two streams are offered in M.Tech. Applied Mechanics Discipline: M.Tech. Applied Mechanics Discipline- (I) Fluid Mechanics and Solid Mechanics (AM1) First Semester is common for all the students of this specialization. Based on the performance in the first semester and their preference, students will be allotted to either of these two groups. Fluid Mechanics covers turbulence, hydrodynamic instability, convection, fluid-structure interaction, bio-fluid mechanics, waves, micro scale flows and environmental flows. Solid Mechanics covers continuum theory, plates and shells, plasticity, fracture mechanics, modeling of materials, dynamics of structures, finite and boundary element methods, experimental stress analysis, digital photo mechanics. Programme Codes: AM1Y -> M.Tech. in Applied Mechanics - Fluid Mechanics and Solid Mechanics For GATE Qualified candidates, the candidate should have taken 'AE','CE', 'CH', 'ME', 'MT' or 'XE' paper in GATE Examination. (II) Biomedical Engineering (AM2) A number of courses have been designed towards this objective and the students can undertake projects in medical instrumentations, imaging, signal processing, biomechanics, rehabilitation, haptics etc. Programme Codes: AM2Y -> M.Tech. in Applied Mechanics - Biomedical Engineering For GATE Qualified candidates, the candidate should have taken 'AE','CE', 'CH', 'CS', 'EC', 'EE', 'IN', 'ME', 'MT' or 'XE' paper in GATE Examination.
