Seed control order, IMSCS New seed act, seed policy. Variety; definition, types, development, release system and notification. Objectives and principles of seed production. Factors affecting seed production, variety maintenance DUS test and VUC, Variety identification through biochemical procedures. Cell Biology & Principles of Genetics Cell structure & function, Cell division, Pollination, Fertilization & embryogenesis. Apomixis, Nucleic acids structure, function its role in genetics. Plant Breeding Genetic basis of plant breeding, Pure line, Pedigree & Mass selection, back cross & recurrent selection techniques, clonal selection, heterodox & combining ability. Male sterility and incompatibility and their use in plant breeding. Hybrid Seed Production, Mutation & its history. Historical aspect of heterosis - Nomenclature and definitions of heterosis - Heterosis in natural population and inbred population; Evolutionary aspects - Genetic consequences of selfing and crossing in self-and cross-pollinated and asexually propagated crops. Plant Physiology Physiological processes involved in regulation of Seed development. Seed & Fruit development, Seed & Fruit abortion, Proximate mechanism of seed and fruit abortion.
