About Architecture Aptitude Test

B.Arch Program is only offered at IIT Kharagpur & IIT Roorkee.

Candidates wishing for of joining the B. Arch. (Architecture) courses will be obligatory to pass in an Aptitude Test to be conducted only at the 7 zonal IITs (nowhere else) on June 15, 2016.

Eligibility

Only those candidates eligible who would have given B. Arch program (available at IIT Kharagpur and IIT Roorkee) as one of their choices while filling their choices online will be eligible to write AAT.

Candidates should register online at the JEE (Advanced) portal for this Aptitude Test between June 12 & June 13, 2016.

Exam Pattern

The test will consist of one paper of three hours duration – from 09:00 to 12:00 hrs (IST).

Question papers for the Aptitude Test will be in English only.

IIT Architecture Aptitude Test 2016 Syllabus

Freehand drawing
This would comprise of simple drawing depicting the total object in its right form and proportion, surface texture, relative location and details of its component parts in appropriate scale. Common domestic or day-to-day life usable objects like furniture, equipment, etc., from memory.

Geometrical drawing
Exercises in geometrical drawing containing lines, angles, triangles, quadrilaterals, polygons, circles etc. Study of the plan (top view), elevation (front or side views) of simple solid objects like prisms, cones, cylinders, cubes, splayed surface holders etc.

Three-dimensional perception
Understanding and appreciation of three-dimensional forms with building elements, colour, volume and orientation. Visualization through structuring objects in memory.

Imagination and aesthetic sensitivity
Composition exercises with given elements. Context mapping. Creativity checks through the innovative uncommon test with familiar objects. The sense of colour grouping or application.

Architectural awareness
General interest and awareness of famous architectural creations – both national and international, places and personalities (architects, designers etc. ) in the related domain.
