Unit-II : Prose
i. The Letter - Dhumaketu
ii. With the Photographer – Stephen Leacock
iii. The Diamond Necklace – Guy de Maupassant
iv. Julius Caesar (Act-II ,Scene –II; Act –III, Scene – I, II) – William Shakespeare
Unit-III : Supplementary Reading
Malgudi Days - R.K. Narayan (Selective stories: An Astrologer’s Day, The Missing Mail, Engine Trouble).
[There will be one question(with alteratives) of 6(six) marks. Answer to be given within 100 words]
Unit-IV : Writing
i. An Article/Advertisement (within 80 words) based on visual or verbal cue(s) [5 marks]
ii. Letter to the editor (within 80 words) [5 marks]
Unit-V : Grammar
The Grammar syllabus includes following areas:
Articles, Tense, Modals, Use of voice, Subject–verb agreement, Narration and Preposition.
The above topics will be tested through the test types given below:
i. Gaps filling with one or two word(s) to test Preposition, Articles and Tense [4 marks]
ii. Editing [4 marks]
iii. Rearranging of jumbled words into meaningful sentences [4 marks]
iv. Transformation of Sentences (Exclamatory to Assertive, Affirmative to Interrogative, Affirmative to
Negative and vice-versa) [4 marks]
v. Changing the mode of Narration. [4 marks]
Unit-VI : Comprehension
This unit contains two passages. The arrangements are as following:
i) A Discursive passage in about 200 words with five Multiple choice questions of one (1) mark each
and two questions on Gaps filling of one (1) mark each with one or two word(s), two other Objective
type questions of one (1) mark each and one question on Vocabulary of one mark (1). [Total =10
marks]
ii) A factual passage in about 200 words with four (4) VSA questions of two marks each and two
questions of 1 mark each on vocabulary
