Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited is an Indian state-controlled oil and gas company headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The Corporation operates two large refineries of the country located at Mumbai and Kochi.

BPCL were transferred to BPRL in the year 2008 through assignment of BPCL's participating interests (PI) in the Production Sharing Contacts (PSCs)
to BPRL.

Currently, BPRL has participati ng interests in 17 exploration blocks in six countries with no operational block.

BPRL’s PI in these blocks range from 10% to 40%. All these blocks are in various stages of exploration/appraisal and thetotal area of all these blocks is about 24,375 sq.km, of which approximately 88% is offshore acreage.

The rating of Bharat PetroResources Ltd (BPRL) continues to factor in considerable strength drawn from its parent, BharatPetroleum Corporation Lt d (BPCL), which has majority shareholding from the Government of India.

The rating also takes into consideration the geographi cally diversified investments in exploration and production (E&P) business, successful
discoveries made at its Mozambique block and operational tie-ups with well-established international players.
