University of Calcutta (CU) is a public state university in Kolkata and it was established on 24 January 1857. PhD Admissions at University of Calcutta: Eligibility Criteria: • Candidates must have M.Sc / BE / BTech / Post B.Sc, / M.Tech / M.Phil from any recognized University or Institute. • Candidates hold MTech / MPhil or passed NET/GATE/SLET/SET, they need not to appear in written examination, they may appear directly for interview. University of Calcutta Ph.D. Physics Coursework: University of Calcutta Coursework for the Ph.D programme in the Department of Physics (2014-2015) The Ph.D Course work in this department will start on and from 9th September, 2014 as per the following schedule. The interested candidates are requested to register for the course as soon as possible. Tuesday (4.00-6 P.M.) Paper I - Research Methodology, Total Marks 50 Friday (4.00-6 P.M.) Paper II – Advanced Theoretical Techniques / Advanced Experimental Techniques, Total Marks 50 The topics along with the course instructors are given below for the Paper II theoretical techniques. The following modules will be offered this year. The student has to take two modules. 1. Quantum Field Theory : Prof. A. Kundu 2. Advanced Particle Physics : Dr. A. Datta 3. Relativistic Mean Field in Nuclear Physics : Dr. A. Bhattacharya 4. Statistical Model of Nuclear Reactions : Prof. G. Gangopadhyay Advanced Computer Programming : Appropriate Problems will be set by supervisors. For Advanced Experimental techniques the interested candidates are requested to contact the following persons for the details of course schedule (Prof. S. K. Biswas, Prof. D. Jana, Dr. S. Bandyopadhyay) Paper III : Elective paper, Total Marks 50 The appropriate topics will be decided by the supervisor and DC.
