The Center for Earth Sciences (CEaS) at IISc established in 2007 and focused on understanding fundamental Earth and planetary processes and assessing their impacts through observations, lab experiments, analytical chemistry and computational simulations. Its academic programs lead to M.Tech., M.Sc. (Eng) and Ph.D. degrees. It also actively participates in the undergraduate teaching program at IISc. The Research projects are funded by non-governmental and governmental agencies. Through multidisciplinary interactions, state-of-the-art laboratories and interdisciplinary research, it envisions newer frontiers in research and teaching. Courses Offered It admits students to M.Tech (Earth Sciences), M Sc (Engg) and Ph.D programs. The eligibility criteria for these programs are as follows: M.Sc. (Engg): One must have Bachelor's degree in the field of Engineering or Technology or Master's degree in any branch of Science. One needs to possess qualification in CSIR-UGC National Entrance Test for JRF or qualification in GATE. After initial screening based on scores in the above exams, selected candidates are called for an on-site interview. Ph.D.: Master's degree in Engineering/Technology with a First Class or Bachelor's degree plus three years M Tech in any branch of Science with a First class. Meritorious candidates with BE/B. Tech in any branch of Engineering or M Sc in any branch of Science, could also be considered for direct PhD admission. M. Tech.
