Re: Central Institute Of Mining & Fuel Research Nagpur Unit-Ii

The Central Institute Of Mining & Fuel Research CSIR – CIMFR, Unit-1, Nagpur, established in June-1986 is a blue chip division of laboratory and is engaged in R&D activities and technical services for the Indian mining industry.

The Nagpur centre, with its precisely articulated mandate is able to cater the technical need of mines all over the country because of its location advantage and its symbol of credibility.

It has two functional sections /group as -

1. Rock Excavation & Fragmentation,
2. Geotechnique & Mine Modelling

Services Offered:

Geo-hydrological studies , qualitative and quantitative estimation of mine water, different aspects related to mine water)

Controlled blasting, blast design, fly rocks and ground vibration studies, technical problems of blasting near habitats for both in mines and tunnels for performance enhancement and productivity improvement.

Cost effective engineering solutions for slope related problems of mines as well as for other infrastructure projects (slope stability studies)

All problems related to rock excavation engineering i.e. Hard rock mining (stope design, stope sequencing, design of portal, decline, shaft pillar, etc., design of surface crown, cross-cuts and other such development drives); Estimation of RMR, Support design, molti seam-working design, pillar design, stability analysis, feasibility studies for coal mines; Subsidence prediction 3D modeling (as per MOEF govt. of India norms); Highwall mine design (web pillar design, molti-seam interaction analysis, highwall slope stability incorporating web cuts, etc (Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Solutions)

3D / 2D Numerical modeling for both underground and surface mines, tunnels, caverns and any other structure in rock /soil below the ground surface.

Trouble shooting in underground construction e.g. Underground Space Technology and its uses for civil sector and infrastructure projects.

This regional centre is equipped with field instruments and modern analysis tools, software namely FRAGALYST 4.0, WIPFRAG, FLAC3D, EXAMINE 3D, GEOSLOPE, GALENA, COMSOL, PFC 2D , MODFLOW ,DIPS ,UNWEDGE etc.

The department is able to offer consultancy services for day to day technical problems of mining organizations and other industrial companies e.g. hydro-electric projects, railways, highways, irrigation etc. involving excavation and tunneling operations.
