Central University of Kashmir (in the past known as the Central University of Jammu and Kashmir) was set up in March 2009 with the arrangement and joining of Prof. Abdul Wahid Qureshi , a prominent academician and the previous Vice Chancellor of University of Kashmir, as the First Vice Chancellor.

The managerial office setup at 101, Baghi-Hyder, Hyderpora in May, 2009 began working with a skelton staff connected with on nomination/contract premise.

Substantive arrangements to different managerial posts including First Registrar, Deputy Registrar, Assisstant Registrar were made in June, 2010.

Regular Entrance Test for admission to MBA, M.Sc I.T and M.A.English projects was led on 19 and 20 June at 30 focuses crosswise over India in colloboration with 6 other Central Universities.

Travel Campus of the University was setup at Sonwar in August, 2010.

A young men lodging was set up at Sonwar to encourage the understudies originating from various parts of the State/Country.

Transport office was set up to encourage the correspondence of understudies to and from the University in February, 2011.

The business related to the outline of the area for University Campus at Ganderbal and planning of Contour maps was apportioned to CPWD.

Three more Masters projects Economics, Mathematics, Convergent Journalism and one Integrated BALLB system were offered from Academic Session 2011.

An Academic square of the University alongside a young men and a young ladies lodging was set up at Magarmal Bagh.

Substantive arrangements to different showing positions in Management Studies, English, Information Technology, Law, Convergent Journalism and Mathematics were made in February, 2012.

Three more Masters projects Urdu, Education and Tourism Management were dispatched for Academic Session 2012.

Two Integrated M.Phil/Ph.D in Management and in English projects and LLM system were likewise offered from Academic Session 2012.

One more Masters project Politics was dispatched for Academic Session 2013.

B.Ed Program was dispatched in the Academic Session 2014.

Three more Integrated BSc/Msc programs in Physics, Zoology and Bio-Technology were dispatched for Academic Session 2015.

Two more Masters projects M.Ed and Comparative Religions were dispatched for Academic Session 2015.
