Re: Children's University Wales

The Children’s University in the United Kingdom began as a Saturday school project in Birmingham in the early 1990s.

It was prompted by Professor Sir Tim Brighouse and Sir David Winkley, then a chief education officer and a headteacher.

During the next decade, a dozen or so local Children’s University centers were in progress across England, Wales and Scotland, offering a range of out-of-school-hours learning experiences to children.

In December 2006, the CU Trust was created and, with the financial support of the Department for Education

(previously the Department for Children, Schools and Families) and the Sutton Trust, established the national Children’s University.

Children's University™ can support schools to:

1. Develop collision evidence approximately the benefits of young people taking part in co-curricular opportunities - both on and off school site;

2. Enhance parental involvement in their child's learning;

3. Use integrated IT systems to monitor hours and participation in co-curricular opportunities both on and off school site;

4. Demonstrate and justify Pupil Premium or other budget spend;

5. Look at School development Plans and utilize learning outside the classroom to improvement attainment, achievement and attendance;

6. Improve the confidence, self-government and readiness for learning of the young people.
