a.1hr
b.½ hr
c.2hr
d.none of these
You can easily understand this answer by thinking the real life scenario. You had 3 pills. For example, at 8:00 you ate the first pill. At 8:30 you ate the second pill and at 9:00 you ate the third (the last) pill. So, it takes only one hour to take all the three pills.

d.Cannot say
Solve through the options, we get that 4 brothers and 3 sisters fulfill the given condition : each boy has 3 brothers and 3 sisters while each girl has 4 brothers and 2 sisters, which satisfies the condition.

b) Kishan
c) Vimal
d) Vardhan

4.If Vardhan and Kishan exchange places with each other without changing the rest of the arrangment that is already done, who will be sitting to the immediate left of Rajan?

b) Vardhan
c) Vimal

a) Raj
b) Vardhan
c) Vimal
d) Rajan

8A clock is such that it loses 4 minutes each day. The clock is set right on February 25, 2008 at 2 p.m. How many minutes should be added to get the right time when the clock shows 9 a.m. on 3rd March, 2008?

a) 9780/359
b) 9340/357
c) 9120/329
d) 8760/269
Let it be like this...
Actual time passed = (6 days * 24 hours) + 19 hours = 163 hours.
given: Clock losses 4 minute in every single day.
(i.e.) In 1440 minutes (24hours * 60 minutes) it losses 4 minutes.
Therefore, the minute hand moves at a slightly slower manner.
That is, the speed of minute hand can be expressed as 1436/1440 fractional part of one minute.
Actual time elapsed is just the reciprocal of it. (i.e.) 1440/1436
Thus in the given time of 163 hours, the actual time elapsed
= 163 (hours) * 60 (minutes) * 1440/1436 (minutes hand)
But due to loss in time, the time elapsed by clock is different and = 163*60
Now calculate the difference = (163*60*1440/1436) - (163*60) = 9780/359
Hope you are clear now...

9 A bank pays interest @ 8 percent p.a. on a deposit for half a quarter as well as on a deposit for one quarter. A makes a deposit of Rs.25 lakhs for a quarter. B makes a deposit of Rs.25 lakhs for half a quarter, and after maturity reinvests the entire amount for half a quarter. What is B’s gain over A?
a) Rs.200
b) Rs.225
c) Rs.250
d) Rs.275

A’s interest =25 lakhs*2/100 = 50,000
B’s interest = 25 lakhs * (101/100) * (101/100) – 25 lakhs = 50,250
:. B’s gain over A = 250. Option (3)

10.T wo persons together have 5 k. of luggage and are charged for the excess above the ordinary concession, Rs.5 and Rs.3 respectively. If all the luggage had belonged to one man, he would have been charged Rs.9. The limit of concession per passenger is :
a)100 gms
b)500 gms
c)48 gms
d)60 gms
If x kg. Is the luggage of the first, luggage of the second = (5-x)kg.
If y kg. Of the luggage is allowed to each free of cost and if z rupees/kg be the charge for the excess luggage, then
(x-y)z = 5;
(5-x-y)z = 3 and (5-y)z = 9
Solving, x = 3, y = ½, z = 2
Hence, the answer is ½ kg = 500 gms. Option (b)

12 A man decides to buy a nice horse. He pays $60 for it, and he is very content with the strong animal. After a year, the value of the horse has increased to $70 and he decides to sell the horse. But already a few days later he regrets his decision to sell the beautiful horse, and he buys it again. Unfortunately he has to pay $80 to get it back, so he loses $10. After another year of owning the horse, he finally decides to sell the horse for $90. What is the overall profit the man makes?
Answer
Consider the trade-story as if it describes two separate trades, where: In the first trade, the man buys something for $60 and sells it again for $70, so he makes a profit of $10. In the second trade, the man buys something for $80 and sells it again for $90, so he makes again a profit of $10.
Conclusion: The man makes an overall profit of $10 + $10 = $20.
You can also look at the problem as follows:
The total expenses are $60 + $80 = $140 and the total earnings are $70 + $90 = $160. The overall profit is therefore $160 - $140 = $20.

13.The difference between a two-digit number and the number obtained by interchanging the positions of its digits is 36. What is the difference between the two digits of that number?
The difference between the two digits of that number is 4. Explanation: Let the ten's digit be x and unit's digit be y. Then, (10x+y)-(10y+x) = 36 i.e. 9(x-y) = 36 and that results to x-y = 4.

15.A light bulb is hanging in a room. Outside of the room there are three switches, of which only one is connected to the lamp. In the starting situation, all switches are off and the bulb is not lit. If it is allowed to check in the room only once to see if the bulb is lit or not (this is not visible from the outside), how can you determine with which of the three switches the light bulb can be switched on?

To find the correct switch (1, 2 or 3), turn switch 1 to ON and leave it like that for a few minutes. After that you turn switch 1 back to OFF, and turn switch 2 to ON. Now enter the room. If the light bulb is lit, then you know that switch 2 is connected to it. If the bulb is not lit, then it has to be switch 1 or 3. Now touching the light bulb will give you the answer. If the bulb is still hot, then switch 1 is connected to the bulb; if the bulb is cold, then it has to be switch 3.
