The Gondwana University is located in Gadchiroli, Maharashtra, India. The university was taking unanimous resolution to constitute the Gondwana University On July 23, 2010 by Maharashtra Legislative Assembly.

The new university was constituted by issuing notification under sub-section (2) of section 3 of the Maharashtra Universities Act 1994.

In 2011, GU was carved out of RTMNU, Nagpur. GU covers the Chandrapur and Gadchiroli districts of Maharashtra.
