DRDO was framed in 1958 from the amalgamation of the then effectively working Technical Development Establishment (TDEs) of the Indian Army and the Directorate of Technical Development and Production (DTDP) with the Defence Science Organization (DSO).

DRDO is a system of more than 50 research centres which are profoundly occupied with creating resistance advances covering different orders, similar to air transportation, weapons, gadgets, battle vehicles, designing frameworks, instrumentation, rockets, propelled processing and recreation, uncommon materials, maritime frameworks, life sciences, preparing, data frameworks and agribusiness.
