Defence Institute of Bio-Energy Research (DIBER) (formely Defense Agricultural research Laboratory, DARL) is occupied with R&D on Biofuel products and Bio-diesel for Defense utilize. Bio-asset protection, change and its prudent use and Bioenergy-items from Himalayan Herbs.

The mind offspring of the vision generally Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru Hon'ble First Prime Minister of India rose as Agriculture Research Unit (ARU) now DIBER. As needs be the work was started and the calculated issues were tended to by starting the R&D exercises to meet the necessity of the troops.

The event of beginning are as under-

Begun working as a specialized consultative cell in Almora to help the ARU opened essentially at Leh under monetary help of ICAR in April 1961.

Both Leh Research Unit and Almora specialized cell were moved to DRDO in July 1962 attributable to different coordinations and authoritative troubles confronted by ICAR.

Field R&D exercises were begun in Almora specialized cell in July 1967 to give better R&D support to Leh Unit.

Almora specialized cell was conceded self-bookkeeping status for leading comparative exercises in Central Himalayas with new name as ARU w.e.f. July 1970.

Field stations of ARU were opened in 1972 at Pithoragarh (5500') and Auli (9000') to meet the prerequisite of different agro-climatic zones.

Base station were opened in Haldwani, the last railroad station for Kumaon slopes, in April 1981 for better man and material help.

The name Agricultural Research Unit was redesigned as DARL in 1984 in the Silver Jubilee year of DRDO with Almora as HQ and Pithoragarh, Auli and Haldwani as separations.

An instructional hub was opened at Gorkha Resettlement and Training Unit (GRTU) Raiwala, Dehradun in 1991, to give preparing on agro-creature innovations to Jawans under the sponsorship of DGR,DHQ.

The historic point task to address by the research facility for maintainable town improvement program was taken up at Kanalichhina town Pithoragarh, and mana town. Agro creature cultivation advancements were exhibited in 36 Sector and were given over to Army. The advances like nursery, hydroponics, half breed vegetable and assortments, mushroom development, biotechnology for chilly resistance, angora rabbit reproducing for hide and fleece and pisciculture and so forth were created and illustrated.

DARL, HQ, was moved to Haldwani from Almora in 1992 and from Haldwani to Pithoragarh in1996.

With the additional centrality of bio-vitality for DRDO and its operation regions being reached out to various agro-climatic zones of Country, the HQ of DARL has again been moved to Haldwani in April 2008.
