Re: DTU Wasp Courses

The WAsP Team field of work is mainly modeling of wind flow over terrain for wind resource assessment and site assessment for wind turbines and wind farms, as well as implementation of research and innovation in software developments.

About the Course

The 3-day WAsP course is intended for engineers, scientists and others, primarily working within the field of wind energy, who require a working knowledge of the WAsP software. Aspects of the theories underlying the programs will be presented, but the course will stress practical experience, best practice and examples on the use of WAsP.

The Course Focuses on

Wind farm production

Wind farm efficiency

Micro-siting of wind turbines

Power production of wind turbines

Wind resource mapping

Wind climate estimation and wind atlas generation.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the WAsP course, the student will be able to:

Describe the wind atlas methodology and its advantages and limitations

Explain the steps in the selection of a site for measurement of the wind resource and good practice for measurement of the wind resource.

Calculate the annual energy production using the WAsP software for simple wind farm cases in terrain within the operational envelope of the WAsP model.

Identify and describe factors adding to the uncertainty of the wind resource and wind farm production estimate
