Drive Against Aids
By a Staff Reporter
A'bad, March, 30
It was a unique sight as more than 3,000 people
formed a human chain from Paldi Circle to incometax
Circle today to highlight the message of 'Don't be
afraid of AIDS : Fight against AIDS' on the eve of
the World AIDS Day.
MA-051] 3 [Contd...
The programme had been organised by the
International Society for Research on Civilisation
Disease. (SIRMCE).
The human chain formation began with the
lining up of school children carrying banners and
placards. Soon the children were joined by college
students and others. Each of the participants
distributed pamphlets containing information on AIDS
and the precautionary measures that could be taken
against it.
As many as 500 homeguards also played a crucial
role in spreading the message about AIDS as they
formed a human chain near Incometax Circle carrying
placards.
Throughout the road from Paldi, Circle to
Incometax Circle, the participants released more than
2,000 balloons to highlight the message. Dr. (Mrs.)
Radium Bhattacharya, Chief Co-ordinator of AIDS
project SIRMCE and organiser of the programme, said
that it was a grand success and the human chain
formed by the people of all ages would go a long way
in creating an awareness about AIDS in the minds
of the common men.

4 (a) Read the following passage and note down its main 5
points :
Some people govern their fate but they forget
the fact that success or failure is the result of one's
own action. If you plant throny bushes, you cannot
reap sweet fruits, the result of an action depends on
what one does and to the extent he does it. If we work
hard we succeed and we succeed to the extent that
we work. People who think that the law of Karma
is Supreme may feel that what one is destined to get

he will always get whether he strives for it or not.
But experience tells that rewards and punishment are
direct results of our actions. Honesty and hard work
never go unrewarded and dishonesty never goes
unpunished. In fact even the law of 'Karma' in its
proper sense means that the fruit that we get is
decided by whatever action we did in the Past
Shakespeare rightly said, "The fault, dear Brutus is
not in our stars, but in ourselves."
